Real Locksmiths, Not Codesmiths
Most people don’t know the difference between a real locksmith and a codesmith until they’ve been turned away.
A codesmith plugs into a machine, pulls a code, and orders a key from a catalog. If your vehicle isn’t in the system or the job requires actual craft, they can’t help you. They’ll tell you it can’t be done. What they mean is they don’t know how.
A real locksmith reads the lock. Cuts from scratch. Rekeying an ignition back to factory specs. Programs a module three other locksmiths said couldn’t be touched. Makes a key for a 1981 DeLorean, a 1927 Model A, or a vehicle that hasn’t had a working key in twenty years.
Jack’s Locksmith is a husband and wife team based in Burnsville, NC — serving Yancey County, Mitchell County, and all of Western North Carolina. Emily runs the shop at 5994 US-19E. Her husband has been doing this for 26 years — the right way. When you call, you reach us directly. Not a call center. We are real local locksmiths, not a franchise.
Free Quote — Know the Price Before We Come Out
Call us, tell us your make, model, and situation. We give you a straight price over the phone before we do anything. No hidden fees. No surprise charges when the job is done. Just honest pricing from a real, local locksmith.

How It Works
📞 Step 1 — Call for a free quote
Tell us your make, model, and what’s going on. We tell you what it costs before we touch anything.
🚐 Step 2 — Come to us or we come to you
The shop at 5994 US-19E in Burnsville handles key origination, duplication, and scheduled work. Mobile service runs Sunday–Friday 8AM–6PM across Yancey County, Mitchell County, and all of Western NC.
✅ Step 3 — Job done right
We don’t leave until it works. Every key tested. Every lock confirmed. If another locksmith told you it can’t be done, that’s where we start.
Auto Locksmith Services in Burnsville NC
Every modern car key has a chip that has to communicate with your vehicle’s immobilizer — if it’s not programmed correctly the car won’t start even if the key is cut perfectly. Keys from Amazon or eBay rarely work because the chip is either the wrong type or can’t be programmed to your vehicle. On European and Asian vehicles some jobs require pulling a module to EEPROM it — codesmiths can’t do this, we can.

Transponder Key Programming
Ignition Cylinder Repair & Replacement
Most ignition cylinder problems start with the key — a worn key bends or breaks the tumblers until the key won’t turn, won’t go in, or won’t come out. A bad locksmith swaps the whole ignition and leaves you with two keys — we rekey it back to factory specs so you leave with one key that works everything. Don’t take a lock problem to a mechanic — they’ll either change the part or call a locksmith anyway and charge you more for being in the middle.

Ignition Switch Repair & Replacement
The ignition switch is the electrical side — separate from the cylinder you insert the key into. If your key turns but nothing happens, no dash lights, no crank, check your battery and fuses first — a dead battery causes the same symptoms and costs a fraction of the repair. We diagnose which component is actually failing before we touch anything.

Car Key Replacement—Spruce Pine NC
A basic metal key is just cut to fit—a transponder key has a chip that must be programmed or the car won't start, and a smart key has a physical metal key hidden inside the fob for when the battery dies. A copy of a bad key is another bad key— we cut from factory specs, not from a worn original. If we can see your key, even from a photo we can make it.

Key Duplication — Burnsville and Western NC
The difference between a good duplicate and one that destroys your ignition over time is calibration — 0.0001 of an inch, thinner than a piece of paper. We calibrate our machines ourselves to that tolerance — codesmiths use automatic machines and there are keys those machines simply can’t cut. Come by the shop on US-19E and we’ll cut a spare while you wait.
Key Fob Replacement—Mitchell and Yancey County NC
Programming a fob to a 2025 Jeep Cherokee is a different process than a Grand Cherokee even though they look identical — year, make, model, and trim all change what’s involved. Fobs from Amazon or eBay rarely work because the chip is usually the wrong type or can’t be programmed to your vehicle’s immobilizer. Call us before you buy online — we’ll tell you exactly what your vehicle needs.

A key breaks in a lock usually because it was already worn — the break is the end of a longer problem. When it breaks off it fills the cylinder and there’s not much room to work — we use specialized extraction tools designed for exactly this. If your key breaks off inside a lock, stop, don’t touch it, and call us — every attempt to get it out yourself pushes it deeper and makes the job more expensive.
Broken Key Extraction

All Keys Lost— No Original Needed
All keys lost means no key or spare. Most locksmiths won't touch this kind of work, but we do. We cut and program a brand new key from scracthno with no original required, a whether it's a late model push-button start or a classic with no chip. We have handled all keys lost on everything from 1927 Model A to a 2026 Mustang. Knowledge is the only way the job gets done.

Car Door Lock Repair
Nine times out of ten door lock problems trace back to a worn key — same root cause as ignition problems. On these occasions it is the lock, the most common failures are broken linkage inside the door or a failed actuator on power lock systems. Don't take a door lock problem to a mechanic, they'll change the part or call a locksmith anyway, and charge you for their service and ours. Skip the middleman and call a locksmith.

Car Lockout Service — Mitchell and Yancey County NC
We get you in without damaging your vehicle We use an air wedge and long reach tools and have several other methods depending on the car. Lockout fees vary by make, model, and distance. Give us a call and we will give you a free quote before we come out.

We Work On Vehicles Most Locksmiths Won’t Touch

RV's and motorhomes
Classic Cars
Luxury cars
Motorcycles
Luxury vehicles — particularly European makes like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi — often require pulling one to three modules to EEPROM before a key can be programmed. Codesmiths can’t do this job. We can. Dealer-level work without the dealer price or the two-week wait.
RVs are a different animal. Most don’t have standard door locks — to make a key we have to pull the ignition out and work from there. They don’t carry a brand name like Ford or Chevy, so before we come out we ask for a picture of the lock so we know exactly what we’re dealing with. When someone loses the ignition key to an RV, they usually need keys cut for the storage compartments too — that comes with the territory. We come to you because you can’t tow an RV to a shop.
No chip, no transponder, no problem. We cut keys the old-fashioned way — by hand when the job calls for it. We’ve made keys for a 1917 Cadillac, a 1981 DMC DeLorean, a 1927 Model A, and vehicles most locksmiths have never seen. If another locksmith told you it can’t be done, call us. We can make keys for 95% of vehicles regardless of age.
Lost ignition key, broken lock cylinder, or a saddlebag you can’t open — we service motorcycles from Harley-Davidson to Honda, cruisers to sport bikes. Bring it to the shop or we’ll come to you.
Most locksmiths handle everyday cars and that’s it. We don’t have that limitation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you make a car key without the original?
Yes. All keys lost is one of our specialties. We cut and program a brand new key to your vehicle from scratch — no original required. Call us and we’ll tell you exactly what’s involved for your specific make and model.
Do you program keys on-site?
Yes. We carry programming equipment on the road and in the shop. We program transponder keys, smart keys, fobs, and remotes on-site and test everything before we’re done.
How much does a car lockout cost in Burnsville NC?
Lockout fees vary by make, model, and how far we’re coming. Call us at (828) 385-6068 and we’ll give you a straight answer before we head out. No surprise charges when we arrive.
Do you work on older and classic vehicles?
Yes — and it’s one of the things we’re known for. We made a key for a 1917 Cadillac at the Grove Park Inn. We can make keys for 95% of vehicles regardless of age. If another locksmith turned you away, call us.
Can you come to my location?
Yes. Mobile service runs Sunday–Friday, 8AM–6PM across Yancey County, Mitchell County, and all of Western North Carolina. We’ll come to your home, your workplace, or the side of the road.
Is it cheaper to use a locksmith than a dealership for ignition work?
Almost always yes. Dealerships frequently subcontract ignition work to licensed locksmiths and charge you double. Call us first and find out what it actually costs.
What is a codesmith?
A codesmth is a locksmith who relies entirely on codes and automatic machines. If your vehicle is in the system, they can help. If it isn’t — or if the job requires real craft — they’ll tell you it can’t be done. We hear that from customers regularly. Usually we can do it.
Can you make a key without the original?
Yes. Key origination is one of our specialties. We make keys from scratch with no original required. Call us with your make, model, and year and we’ll tell you exactly what’s involved.
Why won’t my car start with the new key I had cut?
Almost certainly a programming issue. A key that’s cut correctly but not programmed to your vehicle’s immobilizer won’t start the car. Call us.
Do keys from Amazon or eBay work?
Rarely. The chip is usually the wrong type or can’t be programmed to your vehicle. Call us before you buy online.
Can you program ECUs and immobilizers?
Yes. We program ECUs, BCMs, and immobilizers back to vehicles when components are replaced. This is work mechanics regularly call us to handle.
Do you work on classic and antique vehicles?
Yes. We’ve made keys for vehicles going back to 1917. If another locksmith turned you away, call us.
Should I try to get a broken key out myself?
No. Stop and call us. Trying to extract it yourself pushes it deeper and damages the lock — making the job harder and more expensive.
What should I do if my smart key battery dies?
Hold the fob to the start button and push. The car will start. Then get the battery replaced before you damage the key.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. Call us, tell us your situation, and we’ll give you a straight price before we come out
