What’s the difference between a real locksmith and a “codesmith”?

Codesmiths run dispatcher operations — a call center quotes you a low price, a contractor shows up with a sticker on a sedan, charges hundreds more than quoted, and damages your lock to “fix” it. A real locksmith holds a state license (ours is NC #2631), trains for years, carries insurance, and works from an address you can drive to. Can you make a car key without the original?

Should I rekey my locks or replace them after moving in?

Rekey if your existing locks are in good shape — it changes the internal pins so old keys no longer work, and it costs a fraction of new hardware. Replace if the locks are damaged, outdated, or you want to upgrade to higher security. Most Burnsville move-ins, rekeying is the right call.

Combination changes, lost-key situations, and inherited safes with no documentation are all jobs we handle regularly.
