How much does a locksmith charge in NC?
In North Carolina, basic locksmith service calls typically run $50 to $150, plus the work itself. A house rekey averages $20 to $50 per cylinder. Car key replacement varies a lot depending on whether it’s a basic key, transponder, or smart fob. We give you a real number before we drive — call or text with what you need and we’ll quote it.
What’s the difference between a real locksmith and a “codesmith”?
Codesmiths run dispatcher operations — a call center quotes you a low price, a contractor shows up with a sticker on a sedan, charges hundreds more than quoted, and damages your lock to “fix” it. A real locksmith holds a state license (ours is NC #2631), trains for years, carries insurance, and works from an address you can drive to. Codesmiths are the reason NC requires licensing in the first place.
Can you make a car key without the original?
Yes. We can cut keys from the lock cylinder, program transponder and chip keys, and code modern key fobs for most makes and models. Bring the vehicle to the shop on US-19E or we can come to you.
Why: same as before, this one’s solid.
Should I rekey my locks or replace them after moving in?
Rekey if your existing locks are in good shape — it changes the internal pins so old keys no longer work, and it costs a fraction of new hardware. Replace if the locks are damaged, outdated, or you want to upgrade to higher security. Most Burnsville move-ins, rekeying is the right call.
What car makes do you work on?
Most makes and models — domestic and import, older mechanical keys through modern smart fobs. We’ve keyed everything from work trucks to classic Mustangs to vehicles other shops told the owner to take to the dealer. If you’re not sure, call with the year, make, and model and we’ll tell you straight.
Do you sell locks and safes, or just service them?
Both. The shop carries residential and commercial locks, deadbolts, smart locks, padlocks, and safes — drive out to US-19E and walk through what’s in stock. We can also order specific brands if we don’t have what you need on the wall.
Do you make keys for safes and lockboxes?
Yes. We open, repair, and re-key safes from small home models to large commercial vault-style units. Combination changes, lost-key situations, and inherited safes with no documentation are all jobs we handle regularly. The husband trained under Dave McOmie, who’s in the Safe & Vault Technicians Hall of Fame.
